Loefah, Thefft & more – February 23rd

If you take a look at the progression of UK Bass music in the last decade, Loefah is one of a rare few people who has always been at the forefront. Alongside partners Mala and Coki he started and continues to run the infamous DMZ brand. In 2009 he also began his own imprint, Swamp 81, which has been one of the key labels to be pushing the boundaries of what is loosely known as UK Bass Music. Artists such as Skream, Boddika, Ramadanman and Joy O have released new material through the label, pushing Loefah’s importance in the development of UK electronic music even further. We cannot wait to host him at The Shipping Forecast, the more prevalent question is, what will he play? Support comes from recent Swamp 81 signing Thefft and Abandon Silence residents Rich Furness & Horza.

Django Django – February 21st

Django Django, so-called after one of Django Reinhardt’s teachers, who had a terrible stutter and always struggled with the Belgian jazz guitar legend’s name when he called the register (or possibly not). The four-piece, who met at art school in Edinburgh and now live in fashionable east London, don’t sound very Belgian or jazzy, and the guitars keep a low profile, too. The emphasis is on cadence, although they’re not heavy on the electronics, either – punk-funk or electro-dance this is not. In fact, it’s quite tricky to explain quite what it is that Django Django do, which is good, because it suggests they’re doing something a little bit different.

We Were Promised Jetpacks – February 7th

Following closely in the footsteps of The Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit, We Were Promised Jetpacks are yet another hugely talented young Scottish band added to the FatCat roster. The 4-piece came to our attention when listening to some of the friends on the Frightened Rabbit Myspace page. Though recent months has seen the band tour the UK with their aforementioned friends, the four preceding years have consisted of local gigs in and around Glasgow and Edinburgh, allowing WWPJ to find their sound and hone their live performance.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – February 4th

The gentleman you see wearing the bizarre attire is one Orlando; producer and performer behind the creatively named Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Originally hailing from the Greco-Roman stable, TEED has released three EPs with the Berlin and London party-starters. They are all superbly executed cross-sections of electronic mayhem.

Abandon Silence
Night Slugs Records Party
L Vis 1990 b2b Bok Bok … all night long
Abandon Silence are proud to announce that we have invited London based record label Night Slugs to welcome our doors for 2012, with an all night showcase from their two leading names, Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990. Night Slugs began in 2008 as a club night collaboration between the pair before mutating in to one of UK Bass music’s most prominent and consistent record labels, with releases from artists such as Mosca, Jacques Green and Girl Unit to date. L-Vis 1990 heads to The Shipping Forecast after a breakthrough 2011 which included the release of his debut album, Neon Dreams, which was critically acclaimed by publications as diverse as the NME, Pitchfork and the BBC. His labelmate Bok Bok will be making his Liverpool debut at this gig after overseeing one of the most anticipated releases of 2011, his own Southside EP, which has gone on to dominate the end of year charts. We are so happy that the pair have agreed to host proceedings all night long with an epic 5 hour back to back set. After a huge 2011 which featured appearances at Abandon Silence from Joy Orbison, James Blake, Blawan, Sbtrkt and Pearson Sound to name a few, we cannot wait to see what 2012 holds for us
